

Archaeos was founded in June 1999 as a not for profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the advancement of archaeological research and education.
David Gimbel, President
The founder and president of Archaeos, Inc., a non-profit organization in New York City dedicated to archaeological research and education, he received his doctorate (D.Phil.) from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford (UK); his M.A. degree in art history and archaeology from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University; and completed additional postgraduate studies in art history, archaeology, and ancient languages at Harvard University and at Columbia University.
Currently, he is the Director of the Archaeos Survey Project at Vijayanagara, India; a Co-Director of The Iraq War & Archaeology, Documentation and Information Project; a Research Associate at the Columbia University Center for Buddhist Studies (Department of Religious Studies at Columbia University), and a Research Fellow at the American Institute of Indian Studies, New Delhi.
He has taught archaeology at Oriental Institute of the University of Vienna; co-directed a joint archaeological excavation with the University of Vienna in Syria; and served as the Associate Director and the Cultural Information Manager for the Getty Conservation Institute & World Monuments Fund Iraq Cultural Heritage Conservation Initiative.
Christopher Nicholson, Executive Vice-President
Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Northeastern University School of Law. He earned his BA from Wesleyan University and is a Ph.D candidate in U.S. History at Columbia University, from which he has earned MA and M.Phil degrees.
Ian Stell, Vice-President
Entrepreneur who has developed two successful ventures in the "NOLITA" area of lower Manhattan with his two companies, The Mott Group Limited and Orchard Street Associates. Educated as an artist, he holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Francis Deblauwe, Director IW&A Project
Founder, director and editor of the Iraq War & Archaeology project and web site; research associate with the Institut für Orientalistik of the Universität Wien (Austria); Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (Mesopotamian Archaeology), UCLA; Licentiaat in Archaeology and Art History, and Kandidaat in Oriental Philology and History (Assyriology), Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium); has taught both ancient and modern art history, history and archaeology at University of Maryland University College - European Division, Kansas City Art Institute, University of Missouri-Kansas City; has participated in archaeological excavations in Belgium, Jordan, Syria and Turkey; interests include protection of archaeological heritage, esp. in Iraq, spatial analysis of architecture, Yemen.

Interactive Designer with over 7 years experience in the Web industry. BFA in Computer Graphics and Interactive Media from Pratt Institute's School of Art and Design, Brooklyn, New York. Surveyor, Archaeos Survey Project at Vijayanagara, India (2002, 2003). Interests include the development and presentation of research material for education.
